Where does New York Lottery revenue go?

Obviously, defying the odds and claiming a big lottery prize benefits any New York Lottery player. But winners abound beyond the individual ticketholders.

For starters, any lottery retailer that sells a jackpot-winning Powerball or Mega Millions ticket earns a $10,000 bonus.

But the true beneficiary of New York Lottery revenue: the state education system.

According to the NY Lottery, 100% of revenue generated by lottery sales goes to public education in the Empire State. Through the 2021 fiscal year, the New York Lottery has contributed $75.07 billion to education since 1967, when this process went into place. That includes $3.59 billion generated during the 2021 fiscal year.
