Knicks Futures Bets Turned Into Major Payouts
The Knicks defeated San Antonio in five games. This was the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973. The operator said the result created a large payout for New York futures customers.
One example stood out. A bettor placed $20,000 on the Knicks to win at 22-to-1 during the first-round playoff series against the Hawks. After the Game 5 championship win, that bettor collected $440,000 in profit.
BetMGM sports trader Anthony Parenti said the result “ended up making a lot of our customers very happy.”
How the Series Shifted BetMGM’s Position
The operator also offered a look at how its position changed during the series. Parenti said BetMGM entered the NBA Finals rooting for the Knicks. The Spurs were the sportsbook’s biggest remaining liability in the futures market.
That changed as the series progressed. Parenti said BetMGM’s liability had flipped by the time New York took a 2-0 lead.
That detail matters for New Yorkers. It shows that heavily backed local teams can shift sportsbook exposure in real time. A championship run does not just create excitement for fans. In fact, it can also move betting markets and alter how operators manage risk.
BetMGM said the average NBA Finals bet this year was about 29% larger than Finals bets in 2025. The operator did not provide a full handle breakdown, but the increase suggests stronger engagement in a New York title series.
What Knicks Bettors Should Know Now
Early futures tickets on a local contender can gain significant value as the postseason progresses. At the same time, interest in the Knicks has not faded after the title, according to the BetMGM data.
In the early 2027 market, BetMGM lists the Knicks at +250 to win the East and 7-to-1 to repeat as NBA champions. The Celtics are the early Eastern Conference favorites at +225, but the Knicks account for 14% of next year’s early championship tickets. That is more than any other team.
This does not guarantee anything about next season, yet it does show where early bettor sentiment is heading.
