The New York Mets have found a new way to let fans trade on the game itself. The team announced Wednesday a multi-year partnership naming Novig its Exclusive Official Prediction Market Partner, marking the first tie-up between a Major League Baseball franchise and a prediction market operator.
Starting this season, Novig branding will show up across the Mets’ Citi Field footprint, including stadium signage, in-game moments, broadcast-visible placements and original digital content aimed at introducing fans to regulated prediction markets.
While the Empire State offers regulated New York sports betting apps, prediction markets offering sports contracts are becoming more prevalent in many markets.
Mets frame deal as fan engagement play
The team is positioning the partnership as part of a broader push to modernize the in-park and digital experience for fans. Lew Sherr, president of business operations for the Mets, said in a statement:
“We’re proud to be the first Major League Baseball club to partner with a prediction market company, giving our fans a new and engaging way to connect with the game.
“Innovation is a defining characteristic of our business, and this partnership is another example of our commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving sports landscape. It reflects our broader goal of delivering unique experiences for our fans and continuing to attract industry-leading partners who want to grow alongside the Mets.”
Novig eyes national launch next month
For Novig, the Mets deal lands just weeks ahead of its planned nationwide launch as a federally regulated sports prediction market. The company, which focuses exclusively on sports trading, recently secured designation as an MLB Authorized Prediction Market, plugging it into MLB’s integrity program covering market monitoring and risk reporting.
Jacob Fortinsky, CEO and co-founder of Novig, said:
“Our mission is to build the home for sports trading. Partnering with one of baseball’s most iconic franchises allows us to bring that vision directly to fans in one of the greatest sports markets in the world.
“The Mets have consistently embraced innovation that enhances the fan experience and together, we’re introducing a new way for fans to engage with the game that is transparent, regulated and built on integrity.”
This is Novig’s first partnership with a professional sports team. The company received its Commodity Futures Trading Commission designation as a Designated Contract Market earlier this year, a required step for operating a federally regulated prediction market.
The Mets partnership adds another layer to New York’s fast-growing prediction market landscape, as operators look to plant flags with major sports properties ahead of what’s expected to be a competitive rollout period for sports-focused trading platforms nationally.
