Coming off their first 10-win season since 2001, Syracuse football seems primed for a solid run. But the Clemson Tigers stand in the way of bets on the 2020 Syracuse College Football Playoff odds paying off.
The Orange’s schedule features Clemson in Week 3 at home. Syracuse winning that game would open the door to running the table, an ACC championship and potentially being selected by the committee.
In order to do that, the Orange will have to answer some questions about their roster.
2020 Syracuse College Football Playoff odds: offseason recap
A change under center to sophomore Tommy DeVito also means a change in Syracuse’s offensive philosophy. DeVito is a pure pocket passer.
That creates a question mark, as three starters on the offensive line graduated. The Orange need stellar play up front to not only give DeVito time but provide balance with a running game, as well.
Analysts expect redshirt junior Trishton Jackson to have a big year hauling in DeVito’s passes. There are questions on the defensive side of the ball as well, however.
The deep and talented defensive line bests even Syracuse’s experienced secondary as the defense’s greatest strength. The uncertainty lies in the linebacking corps, where two starters from 2018 are gone.
If the Orange fill the holes, they may be able to squeeze a victory out of their game against the Tigers. It’s likely sportsbooks would favor Syracuse in all their games for the rest of the season upon that happening.

Running the table in its regular-season schedule would not only make a strong playoff case but claim an ACC title, as well. Books have better odds on the Orange doing that.
Other Syracuse futures: ACC championship and win total
Because of Syracuse’s strong 2018 season, the Orange start the season with a decent shot to win their conference. They aren’t the favorite, however, as Clemson is on the prowl.
FanDuel is the best bet for fans who want to wager on Syracuse’s ACC fate, as it has the best lines. FanDuel has the Orange +1600 to reach the ACC title game and +3500 to win it.
While FanDuel is tops for Syracuse’s ACC destiny, PointsBet is supreme for wagers on the Orange’s win expectancy. Disparate books fluctuate between 6.5 and 7.5 wins.
PointsBet has the best line, however, on the under. Betting on Syracuse winning fewer than 7.5 games there currently pays out +120.
While later dates in the season certainly pose a threat, the Orange could get all the momentum they need by taming the Tigers in September. The path to a potential national title starts there.
