A Second Circuit panel on Tuesday rejected separate requests by Kalshi and Coinbase to temporarily shield their sports contracts from New York and Connecticut gambling regulators, according to Law360.
The requests sought protection from state gambling enforcement involving the platforms’ sports contracts. The New York Attorney General’s Office and Connecticut Attorney General’s Office are among the government agencies involved in the dispute, which also involves the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The decision follows earlier New York action against Kalshi. PlayNY reported on Aug. 3 that New York sued the company for $36 billion as the NFL pressed the CFTC for tougher sports-event contract rules.
In reporting on Tuesday’s proceedings, Law360 said the appellate judges appeared unconvinced by the platforms’ efforts to distinguish sports event contracts from sports bets.
