UConn celebrates a second straight NCAA men's basketball national championship for a story on New York sportsbooks and their April 2024 revenue.

The Final Four and NCAA tournament championship fueled the strongest April that New York has seen since launching in early 2022.

As UConn made its way to the first NCAA men’s back-to-back championship in 17 years, NY sports betting saw some $1.96 billion in bets placed – the industry’s highest handle since December.

As a result, online sportsbooks in New York reported a combined $183.79 million in gross gaming revenue, the highest total since January, which resulted in $93.73 million in state tax revenue.

Year over year, April 2024 saw a 27.2% increase in handle (the amount wagered) and a 32.4% uptick in operator revenue compared to April 2023. State taxes collected from online sports gambling increased 33.4% YoY, according to data from the NY State Gaming Commission.

Continuing a familiar theme, FanDuel Sportsbook NY accepted $780.51 million in bets to lead all NY sportsbooks as well as just over $91 million in revenue. Just behind, DraftKings Sportsbook NY clocked in at $736.98 million and a little more than $63 million in revenue.

Rounding out the top three in April is Caesars Sportsbook NY, which took nearly $158.9 million in bets and netted $10.4 million in revenue.

BetMGM Sportsbook generated $9.1 million from almost $130.2 million in bets. It was the highest monthly handle for the online sportsbook in NY in terms since April 2022.

Fanatics Sportsbook, formerly PointsBet, posted a record-setting month for the entity in either iteration. The book’s $74.1 million was the second-highest in the licensee’s time in NY, trailing only January’s $82.9 million. The $5.6 million in pre-tax revenue is the best month ever.
