For example, a winning bet on a single number in roulette pays 35-to-1. In American roulette, the odds are 1 in 38 that you’ll hit your number (the 36 red and black numbers plus the two green zeros). In European roulette, you have a 1 in 37 chance of hitting your number. It’s a long shot either way, but your chances of winning are slightly better in European roulette.
