New York’s online sportsbooks topped $400 million in weekly handle again to close August, as the market took in $420.3 million in bets for the week ending Aug. 30, according to the New York State Gaming Commission.

That total was up 10.1% from the previous week, though still down 24.7% year over year. Operators also posted $39.3 million in gross revenue, a nearly 30% increase from the prior week, while the statewide hold reached 9.5%.

Revenue jumped as August closed

The $39.3 million in gross revenue marked another strong week for New York’s mobile market. State figures show online sportsbooks generated at least $30 million in gross revenue every week in August for the second straight year.

The week ending Aug. 30 was also the first time since mid-July that New York’s weekly handle cleared the $400 million mark. The source summary said activity was helped by college football Week Zero games and MLB betting.

DraftKings led betting volume, FanDuel led revenue

DraftKings posted the highest handle at $149.5 million and reported $12.1 million in gross revenue.

FanDuel was close behind in handle at $146.8 million, but led all operators in gross revenue with $15.9 million.

Among the rest of the field:

  • Fanatics: $52.8 million handle, 9.6% hold
  • BetMGM: $29.2 million handle, 9.4% win rate
  • Caesars: $25.6 million handle, 8.5% hold
  • BetRivers: $8.6 million handle, 8.8% hold
  • theScore Bet: $5.5 million handle, under 7% hold
  • Bally Bet: nearly $2.3 million handle, 11.6% hold

What New York bettors should watch next

This report covers only the week ending Aug. 30, so the next state update will give a clearer picture of whether the return of college football can keep betting volume above $400 million. As always, higher handle does not guarantee better outcomes for players, and anyone betting in New York should do so responsibly.
