Little Town Road rallies late to win Vernon Downs Open Trot

Little Town Road surged late to take Friday’s $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs, giving the 5-year-old mare her fifth win of the season.

Little Town Road closed strongly in the stretch to win the $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday night, finishing in 1:54.3.

Driven by Aaron Byron, the 5-year-old mare rallied three-wide late to get past Civilian Drone, who finished second after setting much of the pace. Tiktok Roy was third.

The fractions noted in the race were :27.0 for the opening quarter by Oh Brother, :56.1 for the half by Civilian Drone, and 1:25.3 for three-quarters by Civilian Drone. Little Town Road returned $6.36 to win.

The mare is by Fordham Road and is trained by Bryson Dunning for owners Howard and Joshua Kaufman. The victory was her fifth of the season and the 23rd of her career.

Elsewhere on the Vernon Downs card, Leon Bailey recorded a driving grand slam. Chris Long had a driving double, and Joe Sansone posted a training double.

Vernon Downs is scheduled to return to live racing on Saturday with a 5:05 p.m. post time.
