Kountry Plunge stayed perfect Friday at Vernon Downs, winning a $110,200 New York Sire Stakes leg for 2-year-old trotting fillies and improving to four wins in four starts.
Driven by Brian Sears, Kountry Plunge took control after Secret Lover set the early pace and went on to score in 1:55.1. Secret Lover finished second, with Jula Florence third.
How the race unfolded at Vernon Downs
Secret Lover made the front early and reached the opening quarter in :28.1. Kountry Plunge then moved into control and led to the half in :59.2.
From there, Kountry Plunge remained in front through three-quarters in 1:27.4 and held off the field in the stretch to keep her unbeaten record intact.
The filly is trained by Ake Svandstedt and is by Chapter Seven out of Plunge Blue Chip. Her owners are Bender Sweden, OBM Stable, Ecurie Diocles AB, Svanstedt & Midnight Son.
Other notes from the Vernon card
Jessica Okusko recorded a training hat trick on the program. Leon Bailey and Jacquavyian Carter each had driving doubles.
Vernon Downs is scheduled to return to live racing Saturday, Sept. 5, with a 5:05 p.m. post time.
