Fully Subscribed got up in the final jumps to win Thursday’s Grade 2 Shuvee at Saratoga Race Course, overtaking Scottish Lassie by a half-length in the $250,000 stakes for older fillies and mares.
Ridden by Flavien Prat for trainer Chad Brown, the 4-year-old filly covered nine furlongs in 1:49.46 over a fast main track. Scottish Lassie, the 7-5 favorite, set the pace and held second, with Snowyte another 4 3/4 lengths back in third.
The win gave Fully Subscribed her third graded stakes victory and improved her in-the-money record to 8-4-3-1. Her previous graded wins came in the Grade 2 Mother Goose and Grade 3 Comely at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Brown said the difference came once Fully Subscribed found room in the stretch.
> “I wasn’t sure she’d get there, because I mean, that’s a really high-quality horse [Scottish Lassie] to run down there,” Brown said. “But once she got off the rail, I figured it would be close at the finish because I know this filly, once she gets in the clear, she does her best running.”
Prat said he thought he might settle for second before the filly found another gear late.
> “Turning for home, it looked like [Scottish Lassie] opened up on me and at that point I thought I was going to run second, and in the last eighth of a mile, sixteenth of a mile she found another gear,” Prat said.
Fully Subscribed returned $5.44 on a $2 win bet as the 8-5 second choice. The victory was worth $137,500 for owner Klaravich Stables. She was purchased for $300,000 at the 2024 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and was bred in Kentucky by Payson Stud.
What comes next is clearer than the result was at the wire. Brown said Fully Subscribed could meet Scottish Lassie again in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign on Aug. 29 at Saratoga. That race carries a $500,000 purse and is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Distaff at Keeneland.
