Digging For Gold won the $8,500 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Monday, Sept. 7, giving the 4-year-old gelding his third victory of the season and 15th career win.
Driven by Jimmy Whittemore, Digging For Gold stopped the clock in 1:50.4. He is owned by trainer George Ducharme along with Megan Moschgat, Jim Winske, and David Winske.
How the Open Pace unfolded
Bluesville set the early pace, reaching the opening quarter in :26.1. Digging For Gold took over from there and reached the half in :54.0 before hitting three-quarters in 1:21.4.
War Of Will finished second, while Primo Uomo was third. Digging For Gold returned $2.56 to win.
Other wins on the Vernon Downs card
Leon Bailey recorded four driving wins on the program. His victories came with Unmatched Wisdom, Hunt Me Down, Major Steel, and Gibby.
The card also included a milestone for Cher Beaudin, who earned her first career parimutuel driving win with Oakwood Vegas IR.
