Three third-prize Powerball tickets worth $50,000 each were sold at the same Brooklyn store for the Aug. 12 drawing, according to the New York State Gaming Commission.
The tickets were purchased at the Hallmark store at 1619 Ave. U in Homecrest, officially listed as 1619 SRS Corp. The winners had not yet come forward as of the source report, and state officials said they do not yet know whether the tickets were bought by one person or multiple players.
Homecrest store produced three $50,000 winners in one drawing
Jacquie Slater of the New York State Gaming Commission confirmed the triple win. She said it is possible that one person bought multiple tickets with the same number combination, but the identities of the winners are not known until tickets are claimed.
Store owner Jitendra Prajapati told the Brooklyn Eagle he was surprised to learn that three winning tickets were sold at his shop, calling it “a lucky place.” He also said this was the second time someone had won $50,000 at the store, with the previous win coming in 2017.
The winning numbers for the Aug. 12 drawing were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with a Powerball of 9 and a Power Play multiplier of 2.
Other New York wins came as Illinois ticket hit $1.04 billion jackpot
The Brooklyn tickets were part of a much larger Powerball drawing that produced 52 third-prize winners nationwide during the jackpot run. One additional third-prize ticket was sold on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and another was sold in Medina in western New York.
A single ticket sold in Illinois won the $1.04 billion jackpot. More than 3 million tickets won cash prizes in Wednesday night’s drawing.
For New York readers, the immediate next step is straightforward: the Brooklyn winners remain unknown until the tickets are claimed. The New York Lottery also noted that it contributed $3.8 billion in fiscal year 2023-24 to benefit public schools across the state.
