BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said regulated sportsbooks still have meaningful advantages over prediction markets as the NFL season begins, even as platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket push further into sports-related contracts.

In a Yahoo Finance interview published Sept. 8, Greenblatt said he feels more optimistic about BetMGM than he can remember heading into what he called the company’s busiest and most important time of year.

BetMGM points to product and loyalty advantages

Greenblatt framed the coming NFL season as a major test for the sportsbook sector as prediction markets draw more attention from bettors and investors.

He cited an American Gaming Association estimate that about $29.5 billion will be wagered legally during the NFL season through regulated operators, adding that the figure is flat year over year even as prediction-market sports activity grows.

Asked why customers would choose a sportsbook over a prediction market, Greenblatt said regulated operators still offer a better overall experience. He pointed to stronger odds presentation, more robust real-time bet-building tools, and a broader betting product.

He also said BetMGM’s loyalty setup gives it another differentiator, highlighting ties to MGM Resorts and what he described as a first-of-a-kind relationship with Marriott.

What the comments mean for bettors watching the market

The interview did not include new financial guidance from BetMGM or specific projections for the NFL season. It also did not provide detailed data comparing sportsbook performance with prediction-market platforms.

Still, the comments show how established sportsbook operators are publicly defending their position as newer alternatives expand their sports offerings. For bettors, that means the competition is no longer only among traditional sportsbooks, but increasingly between regulated books and prediction-market products as well.

What to watch next is whether operators such as BetMGM keep emphasizing product features and loyalty rewards during football season as competition from prediction markets continues to grow. As always, bettors should gamble responsibly.
