Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel will spend October promoting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with fundraising events, survivor recognition and a mobile mammography stop at the Western New York gaming and racing property.
The venue said it will be lit pink inside and outside throughout the month. Batavia Downs also plans to turn its infield track fountain pink and paint the rim of its half-mile racetrack pink as part of the campaign.
President and CEO Byron Brown said the goal is to promote “screening, education, and awareness.”
Fundraisers tied to racing schedule
More than a half dozen events are planned, including two signature “Night at the Races” fundraisers in the Clubhouse.
One event this Saturday will benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. A second fundraiser on Oct. 24 will benefit Roswell Park. Batavia Downs said both events will include a dinner buffet, silent auction and drawings for Stay & Play packages.
Saturday’s event will also mark Batavia Downs’ first stop on the Lady Drivers Series, which features all-female drivers at participating racetracks around the country. According to the venue, the drivers are donating their driving proceeds to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
Following the sixth race on Saturday, cancer survivors will be recognized on the track.
Pink Hatters night and mobile mammography date
Another scheduled event is Pink Hatters & Friends Night on Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the Park Place Event Center. Batavia Downs said that event will include basket raffles, live entertainment and a Best Hat Awards competition.
The property is also partnering with UR Medicine to host a Mobile Mammography Van on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Batavia Downs parking lot.
Screening appointments can be made by calling 1-844-870-0002 or emailing [email protected].
Batavia Downs said women make up 51% of its staff and 52% of its customers, underscoring why the monthlong awareness campaign is a focus at the property.
