A proposed ferry route from New York City to Atlantic City could give casino visitors another way to reach the resort by summer 2027, though the project remains in the exploratory stage.
Seastreak President James D. Barker said the company is in preliminary talks with Atlantic City interests led by developer Tommy Carr about a possible service from the Battery in lower Manhattan to a marina near the Golden Nugget. Barker told stakeholders the idea is still far from final, saying, “This isn’t a sure thing. We’re really just exploring the idea.”
Trial service is being discussed for Memorial Day 2027
According to the proposal now under discussion, a trial could begin by Memorial Day 2027. Barker said a working group has been meeting every couple of weeks, and one meeting on the plan was held Sept. 21 with Atlantic City Mayor Marty Smalls, members of his cabinet, Carr’s DEEM Enterprises, developers, and other stakeholders.
The expected travel time is about two hours and 45 minutes. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported fares could reach $145.
Seastreak is considering its two newest and largest vessels for the route: the 600-seat _Commodore_, which entered service in 2018, and the _Courageous_, which entered service in December 2021.
Marina access near Golden Nugget is part of the pitch
One route option would bring passengers to Farley State Marina, near the Golden Nugget. Barker said the marina could handle ferry operations with minor modifications to existing infrastructure.
From there, passengers would be within a five- to 10-minute walk of the Golden Nugget and other nearby casinos. Stakeholders have also discussed shuttle service to additional casino properties elsewhere in Atlantic City.
Possible operating schedules are still being weighed, including Friday-to-Sunday service or midweek runs from Tuesday to Thursday.
What New York travelers should watch next
For now, there is no approved launch, final route, fare, or operating schedule. The next key questions are whether Seastreak and Atlantic City stakeholders move beyond preliminary talks, which marina is selected, and whether a trial service is formally announced for 2027.
