The American Gaming Association (AGA) has announced three new initiatives to promote the gaming industry, build support in Congress and raise awareness of illegal operators, according to CDC Gaming Reports. The initiatives are built from the association’s strategic plan.
Three initiatives from the AGA
The first is "Get to Know Gaming," described as a multiyear, integrated campaign to promote the value of the gaming industry, challenge myths and improve the domestic business environment. The AGA says it will use communications tools rooted in authoritative research to drive media coverage, recruit allies and create digital strategies. The association says the industry supports more than 800,000 employees.
The second is a champion development initiative to educate and recruit gaming allies in Congress. It includes Members of Congress engaging with employees, touring facilities and taking part in community-building efforts.
Illegal operators and the sweepstakes toolkit
The third initiative is what the AGA calls an aggressive public relations campaign to raise awareness of illegal operators and promote enforcement against them. The examples it names are offshore online gaming operators, operators of grey machines, "Internet Sweepstakes Cafes" and illegal gambling halls.
As part of the effort, the AGA rolled out an ISC toolkit that includes a one-page fact sheet and model legislation.
New York is among the jurisdictions tied to the story. PlayNY reported in September that VGW would pay New York $8 million after an illegal gambling enforcement action.
The AGA’s call for partnership
The AGA says working together is essential to the gaming industry’s future. It says it will identify areas of common cause, advocate for the industry’s interests and provide tools to support partnership with the association.
