Yankees close out first half of MLB season vs. Red Sox

No team in baseball has enjoyed the success that the Yankees have had this season. That said, New York has struggled of late.

The Yanks have lost six of 10, including three of the last four, heading into their three-game set against Boston. This after going 22-6 last month.

Fortunately, New York (62-27) has built a seemingly insurmountable lead in the AL East, leading the Tampa Bay Rays by 13 games in the division standings.

The Yankees have ridden the hottest offense in baseball to get there, ranking first in the bigs with 150 home runs and 442 RBI. The likes of Aaron Judge (31 HRs), Giancarlo Stanton (23) and Anthony Rizzo (22) have led the way for New York, which also boasts a stout pitching staff that ranks third in Major League Baseball in ERA and saves while leading the league with 12 shutouts.

Two of the Yankees’ recent losses came at the hands of these Red Sox, who have their own steady offense to worry about. Boston (47-43) owns the third-best batting average in MLB, paced by three players who rank in the top 10 (Rafael Devers, .327; Xander Bogaerts, .317; and JD Martinez, .306).

For what it’s worth, the Yankees need to finish the regular season as strong as they started in order to break the MLB single-season wins record owned by the 1906 Chicago Cubs. As it stands, New York needs to go 55-18 the rest of the way to etch its name in the history books.

Best bet: Stanton to hit a HR

It’s difficult to predict a long ball from any specific player. With the Yankees, it becomes a little easier (theoretically). After all, the Bronx Bombers could very well challenge the MLB record for most homers in a single season: 307 set by the Minnesota Twins in 2019.

Stanton comes into this game on a bit of a roll, homering in two of his past three games. The matchup, though, inspires some optimism.

Boston manager Alex Cora expects Nathan Eovaldi (back) to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday. Eovaldi has faced the Yankees just once this season, in each team’s season opener. In that game, Stanton went deep.

Only seven other pitchers have allowed more home runs than Eovaldi’s three against Stanton. But Giancarlo has also gotten the best of the Boston hurler. Only he and José Altuve of the Houston Astros have hit three homers off Eovaldi.

With odds opening up at +330 for Stanton to deliver a long ball, it certainly appears worthy of using the Caesars NY promo code.
