In what one could consider a $3 million shot in the arm to the local community, Resorts World Hudson Valley has targeted a fall 2022 opening on Route 300 in Newburgh.
Housed in the former Bon-Ton Department store building of the Newburgh Mall, sitting about 60 miles north of Manhattan, the New York casino will feature 1,200 VLTs (video lottery terminals), along with other electronic table games, in a 90,000-square-foot area.
Additionally, a sports bar expects to help complement the Resorts WorldBet NY sports betting app.
Resorts World Hudson Valley to feature plenty of VLTs
While they appear similar to slot machines, VLTs operate in conjunction with all other VLTs supported in the Hudson Valley location.
Slot machines, however, utilize independent programming to generate randomized results.
Originally featured at Monticello Raceway, the VLT license transferred to the Newburgh location with New York State Gaming Commission approval. A driving factor was the opening of a Vegas-style casino, Resorts World Catskills. There, more traditional “live” dealer table games exist right next door to the raceway.
Surrounded by cafes and shops, the casino also will also include the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar. This area will offer a 360-degree view of the gaming floor.
Target clientele eyed locally by Resorts World
This new facility intends to attract more local residents. Speaking with the Mid Hudson News, Meghan Taylor said the development should move forward with relative ease.
“It’s quick and easy to get to off of the infrastructure and roadways we have right outside of our doors, as opposed to the Resorts World Catskills where it is a luxury weekend getaway,” the company’s vice president for government affairs told the Mid Hudson News.
“We do not have a hotel here. We don’t have restaurants in the facility here at Resorts World Hudson Valley, but we hope that with making that key decision, we’re going to be a catalyst to drive redevelopment here at the mall.”
William B. Tabler Architects, designer of the casino, noted on its website that the overall style and layout for Resorts World Hudson Valley is “more” local and approachable so as to attract a regional crowd.
Finishing touches on latest NY casino
About 200 construction workers will put the finishing touches on the site. They will install the VLTs and electronic table game machines while sprucing up the local ambiance. All the while, Resorts World is busily lining up the approximately 250 employees that will make the place go.
Taylor expressed the hope that the casino will breathe new life into the Newburgh Mall, as dining options remain limited. Since the facility is primarily gaming-oriented, the opportunity for rejuvenating the mall with support businesses is there.
William B. Tabler Architects also designed Resorts World NYC, which opened in 2011 and is considered a frontrunner to land one of three downstate NY casino licenses.
