The Powerball jackpot continues to climb across the nation. And the grand-prize winner, should they emerge from New York, will claim the third-largest jackpot for the popular draw game in state history.
With the drawing scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, the top prize sits at $312 million. That equates to roughly $175.1 million in lump-sum cash value.
The only Powerball jackpot to exceed that total in New York came in October 2018, which clocked in at a whopping $687.8 million. We still have quite a way before we get to that total. Still, this week’s Powerball jackpot is quite life-changing. What steps should you take if you are the lucky New York Lottery winner?
The drawing for Wednesday — as well as for Saturday, June 25 — will take place at 10:59 p.m. ET.

What to do if you hit a New York Lottery jackpot
Last week, one New York Lottery player just missed out on a massive Powerball jackpot.
The lottery announced that a ticket matching the five white balls was sold at Deer Hills Service on Deer Park Ave. The result for that ticketholder: $1 million.
Claiming this kind of prize, or for any monetary value, requires a few steps in order to redeem that ticket.
For starters, prizes of less than $601 can be redeemed at any NY Lottery retailer.
As for prizes greater than $601, ticketholders should schedule an appointment at one of the lottery’s Customer Service Centers after filling out a claim form. Holders should also be ready to submit a valid government-issued ID an a Social Security number or Federal Employer Identification Number as well as the winning ticket.
Any jackpot win, a Mega Millions prize exceeding $500,000 or a Powerball ticket for greater than $50,000 will be processed at the lottery’s Schenectady office.
It should be noted that any jackpot of more than $5,000 is subject to a state tax of 8.82% as well as a federal tax of 24%. New York City, meanwhile, also imposes a tax of 3.786%.
